Message: The only thing that could have made it better was if we could have stayed longer. The whole adventure was fabulous. The dogs, the guide (Shawn), the food, the scenery, the frozen lakes, and the yurt (pure comfort) were excellent. I can't wait to come back next year. Hopefully Shawn will still be there, not off body painting.

Message: It's hard to put into words how much we enjoyed our trip. I am in awe of the spirit, energy and intelligence of your dogs.
They were very patient with us! Our thanks to you, Peter, for your calm encouragement and warm sense of humor. Mary Beth and I are glad we returned with the same number of people we left with. We have all agreed that we'd like to do a longer trip next time. Be well.

Message: I just returned from the premier yurt trip, and it was a fantastic adventure! This is definitely something I'd like to do again in the future. The trails were exciting and the scenery was unbeatable. Our guides (Doug and Eric) were great - my group really appreciated that they were willing to take us through some challenging terrain.

Message: We were fortunate to experience what many include on their “bucket list” – you know the list of things you want to do before you kick the bucket. Backcountry Trout fishing via Dogsled. We hooked up with White Wilderness Sled Dog Adventures www.whitewilderness.com What a thrill. My team of 5 tireless pups were chomping at the bit to get the show on the road. After a brief tutorial of how to drive my 5 crazy canines, I gave the call “allright” and we were off like a flash.

Note of Warning – listen very carefully to the instructions you’re given – and don’t take those cute puppies for granted – they are power houses.

When my team hit the first corner on the trail, literally about 4 seconds into the trip, they handled it with grace and dignity. I, on the other hand managed to flip the dogsled to the outside pitching me into the trees. I did however manage to hang onto the bar. I could hear the sled team behind me laughing out loud…
I somehow managed to right the machine but had the daunting task of doing the most extreme chin-up ever! Keep in mind here…I’m dragging behind the sled, causing the dogs to feel an increase in weight which in turn causes them to pull harder, and pick up great amounts of speed. I had so eloquently bailed off the sled and the dogs were free to run full tilt. I heard “man up Melnyk” coming from the team behind me as I managed to pull myself back up on the runners and slow those puppies down. (left on the edit suite floor – no-one will ever see this debacle.)

We drove for about an hour, over hill and dale in relative silence, arriving at a small lake in the backcountry of Minnesota. Drilled a couple of holes and built a fire to roast some brats. What a trip – what a ride, absolutely stunning, breathtaking fun!

Mother Nature must have felt sorry for us because she offered up a fish… there actually are fish in Minnesota! We caught a 14 inch brookie thru the ice and soon thereafter finished up our work to complete the show.

Dog sledding is a riot! It’s one of the few adventures where you actually look forward to the end – only for the fact that you can get those dogs up and experience the rush of sledding again. My lead “pup” was named Gorp. He is 12. We travelled over 20 miles that day, up hills and thru valleys.. Old Gorp didn’t miss a stride. That says a lot for the care White Wilderness Dog Sledding Adventures provides their animals. when a 12 year old dog is still leader of the pack both socially and physically, somebody is doing something right.

Wait a minute… I guess Mother Nature isn’t so harsh afterwards. And as for the fishing in the Great State of Minnesota, well I'll have to get there when it isn't -40 degrees farenheit. I know there's fish there... in the land of 10 thousand lakes, there has to be!
